President’s Letter to Members

June 2017

Dear Members:

I am pleased to share some great news about SIFM with you.

First, two new Board of Directors members have been elected – Elaine Lehnert and Sarah Sheldon.

Elaine is a Managing Director of Ankura Consulting Group where she works in the Investigations and Accounting Advisory Services practice. She has more than twenty-five years of experience in forensic accounting, internal controls evaluation and technical accounting and auditing matters.

Prior to Ankura, Ms. Lehnert was a Managing Director in the Forensic and Litigation Services practice at FTI Consulting and a Managing Director at Veris Consulting. Ms. Lehnert has directed major engagements involving litigation and expert testimony; forensic accounting; fraud investigations; reinsurance disputes; and assistance to the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board.

Sarah is Senior Tax Counsel at MetLife, Inc. where she concentrates on indirect tax planning, transfer pricing, and state and local controversy. Ms. Sheldon joined MetLife in 2012 after working for the I.R.S Office of Chief Counsel in Washington, D.C. where she served as a subject matter expert in National Office before joining Large Business and International Division Counsel. Ms. Sheldon received her LL.M in Taxation, Cum Laude, from the University of San Diego and J.D. from California Western School of Law.

Second, in April, we launched the SIFM Young Professionals group with a Mix, Mingle and Whiskey Tasting event. Thanks to Russ Sommers and Kelly Nickerson, this first event well exceedingly well. There were 38 people registered, and was an interesting mix of members and non-members. Although the attendees tried the whiskey, most were more interested in networking with each other. We are looking forward to two more successful events in 2017.

Finally, I wanted to take the opportunity to let you know that the Annual Conference will be held at the Borgata in Atlantic City from September 17th – 20th. The theme of the conference will be Innovation in Insurance, and we already have an excellent roster of speakers, including:
