Members:
As I begin my term as president, I want to acknowledge the foundation that my predecessors have built in shaping the success of our organization. In particular, I want to thank our immediate past president, Adriana Nivia, whose leadership, guidance, and high standards have positioned SIFM to address future challenges.
I also appreciate your support and look forward to working together over the next two years.
There are several new SIFM initiatives that I want to highlight:
SIFM Scholarship and SIFM Scholarship Committee
The SIFM has initiated a new merit- and need-based scholarship for college students who demonstrate scholastic achievement, financial need, and interest in a career in insurance.
The Board of Directors has identified two schools to act as facilitators:
- St. John’s University, School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science (New York, NY)
- Saint Joseph’s University, Maguire Academy of Insurance and Risk Management at the Haub School of Business (Philadelphia, PA).
A committee consisting of SIFM members of the Board of Directors and the President’s Advisory Council has been formed to evaluate the program’s success and recommend changes to the program as needed. The annual scholarship has a maximum amount of $2,500 per school.
Format of Future Conferences Committee
Modify conferences to better attract new members. Committee members include: Sean Egan (Chair), Greg Giardiello, Sarah Sheldon, Ken Croarkin, and Brian Clouse.
Annual Conformance Format Committee
Evaluate the length of the annual conference, location, and activities for non-golfers and golfers. Committee members include: John Cunningham (Chair), Ken Croarkin, Greg Giardiello, Chris McNulty, and Imran Makda.
Increasing Attendance Committee
Explore ways of encouraging attendance by members and guests at conferences. Committee members include: Michele Landon (Chair), Greg Domareki, and Elaine Lehnert.
We want your help! To get involved with these committees, contact me or a committee member.
As I reflect on the mission, vision and purpose of the SIFM, I am certain our organization provides an effective forum for insurance industry financial professionals for personal and professional development. Our continued success is ensured by the active involvement of all members. I encourage you to attend our conferences, stay involved, and bring others into our organization so we can broaden our reach to industry processionals.
Hoping that the new year brings you happiness and success,
Erin E. Mulloy
President, SIFM
