Burkard – Managing Director, Tax Services, Grant Thornton LLP
Mr. Burkard specializes in all areas of state and local taxation with an emphasis on multi-state corporate income/franchise tax as well as sales and transactions taxes for diverse client groups including insurance, financial services, construction, retail, and technology. Art has experience reducing companies’ effective tax rates through planning and restructurings, conducting due diligence reviews, identifying consulting opportunities, and analyzing existing operational tax requirements for clients. He has assisted multiple industry specific clients in identifying and implementing tax automation strategies that resulted in significant tax savings.
Art was a law clerk with the New York State Tax Appeals Tribunal and has over 27 years of public accounting experience at Grant Thornton, KPMG, and Deloitte.
Mr. Burkard earned a BA in history from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He was awarded a LLM in taxation from New York University School of Law, and a JD from New York Law School. He has attained certifications with the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, IPT-CMI (Sales Tax). He has been admitted to practice in New York and Connecticut. Art also participates on the Committee on State and Local Taxation of the New York City Bar Association.
