The Board of Directors of the SIFM has authorized a scholarship providing a merit-based award to a qualified student attending a top School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science who intends to seek a career in the insurance industry.
The Board of Directors has identified two schools as facilitators for the SIFM Scholarship. They are St. John’s University, School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science (New York, NY), and the Maguire Academy of Insurance and Risk Management at the Haub School of Business at Saint Joseph’s University, (Philadelphia, PA).
A committee consisting of SIFM members of the Board of Directors and the President’s Advisory Council has been formed to evaluate, track the success of the program and to recommend changes or enhancements to the program.
The scholarship may be awarded annually and has a maximum amount of $2,500 for each school. Scholarship recipients also receive a one-year honorary membership to SIFM, and free registration and attendance to the SIFM Quarterly Conference of their choice during that year.
Student Eligibility
The criteria for student selection include
- Junior level student in the insurance, risk management or actuarial programs
- Graduate student in insurance, risk management or actuarial programs
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Financial need as determined by the college’s financial aid department.
The responsibility regarding the awarding and disbursement of funds lies exclusively with the university subject to the SIFM selection criteria. The office of financial aid, which is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations concerning aid disbursement, will manage the awarding of all Scholarship funds in accordance with the above stated guidelines and university policy.
